First off, Vanity Fair published an in-depth write-up about Bill Clinton by Todd Purdum. In it the author hints that the former president’s behavior in the past few years has been quite frisky, mentioning “more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California.”

The quote had both Gershon and Clinton up in arms, with the Bound star demanding through her lawyers from the law firm Lavely & Singer (the same firm dealing with this mess) that a retraction be printed, as well as

a correction to the story. Gershon’s camp claims that the piece “outrageously insinuates that Ms. Gershon has had an inappropriate sexual relationship with President Clinton. that is absolutely false.”

As for the former president, his reaction was just as vehement, calling Purdum “sleazy,” “dishonest,” “slimy” and “a scumbag.” Since thereupon, wife/presidential hopeful Hillary has apologized via her campaign for the remarks, which she claims were “inappropriate.”

But really, what would that election be without a good, old-fashioned Clinton sex scandal?
